POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for Seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Finance - HoF to Lead all aspects of the day-to-day finance function. This role is hybrid with a minimum requirement in the office of 2 days per week. Salary offered for this position is between £65,000 - £70,000. The right person has had experience in managing a high performing finance team, finance vendor and regulator relationship management, finance statutory filings and finance process oversight. The role will support the Director of Corporate Services in finance risk management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance vendor and regulator relationship management includes managing contractual relationships with the following vendors: trading banks, investment management firms, payroll bureaus, insurance broker, finance system vendors, payment platform providers, external auditors, internal auditors, HMRC, the UK Charity Commission and UK Companies House. This includes bank signatory updates, tenders, financial supplier contract renewals, contract drafting and periodic conflict resolution regarding finance supplier relationships.
Finance statutory filings include all tax returns and filing the Annual Reports and Financial Statement with the relevant regulators, by the due dates.
Finance process oversight includes being the business process manager for the following business processes; year-end reporting process, month-end reporting process, quarterly forecasts, annual budget process and supporting the marketing & memberships depts with the finance aspects of the membership renewal process.
Develop, maintain, and regularly update internal finance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws, accounting standards, and best practices.
Supporting the Director of Corporate Services in finance risk management includes the following finance risks; insolvency avoidance, financial theft & fraud avoidance and remedy, irregular spending avoidance and supporting the branches (domestic and international) to maintain good financial controls on funds held and processed.
Finance team management includes managing & mentoring finance staff - providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and performance.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- A qualified, chartered accountant e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
- Self-motivated, with a strong ability to interact with numerous teams with varying seniority levels.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- 5+ years in overseeing the annual budget process and year end statutory reporting in compliance with charity sector reporting standards e.g. FRS102.
- 5+ years in overseeing quarterly forecasting and monthly reporting for multiple audiences (the board, its committees, senior leadership team, budget holders).
- Experience overseeing tax returns filing (timely and accurate).
- Skills in managing and improving finance processes (fast month-end closes, more insightful financial reporting, more efficient use of finance team time).
- Experience in conflict resolution – working with external and internal stakeholders to resolve problems as they arise, in order to preserve long term working relationships.
- Charity sector finance experience, including managing finance teams.
Desirable
- Experience in leading on finance system projects (version upgrades, system replacements, chart of accounts redesigns).
- Experience in UK based professional membership bodies, ideally those with international branches or foreign company subsidiaries.
